Dr. Herta Däubler-Gmelin
Lawyer, the Federal Minister of Justice of the Federal Republic of Germany (1998-2002)
German, is a well-known politician and legal expert. A member of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), she was a deputy in Germany’s parliament from 1972 to 2009, and chairperson of the committee for Human Rights and legal affairs of PACE.
From 1998 to 2002 she served as the Federal Minister of Justice. Prof. Dr. Däubler-Gmelin teaches Political Science and Human Rights (constitutional law) at various German and international universities (Freie Universität Berlin, Tonji – University Shanghai, Beida and CUPL, Bejing, University Hanoi, Vietnam). She has been engaged in supporting legal changes to democratic governance abroad and is a hon. President and member of several NGOs (including charitable organisations).
