Information about the Badge “For the Protection of Human Rights”

By Decree of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan dated June 22, 2020 “On approval of the National Strategy of the Republic of Uzbekistan in the field of human rights”, the badge “For the protection of human rights” was established. By the Decree of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan dated November 3, 2020, the Regulations, description and certification of the badge were approved.

The purpose of the establishment of this sign is to encourage and reward citizens and organizations that have made a great contribution to the protection of human rights and freedoms, as well as to popularize the example of those who are role models in the implementation of this activity and their experience. This is intended to strengthen the activities of state bodies, civil society institutions and citizens in the field of human rights protection.ҳ

This badge can be awarded to citizens of the Republic of Uzbekistan who have made a worthy contribution to the protection of human rights and freedoms, the promotion of a culture of human rights and the development of this direction in general.

Also, representatives of foreign countries, as well as organizations working in the field of human rights protection, can be awarded with the badge "For the Protection of Human Rights".

According to the Regulations of the Cabinet of Ministers the awarding process includes the following steps:

  1. Candidates for awarding a badge are recommended to the National Center for Human Rights by civil society institutions, government agencies and organizations.
  2. The National Center of the Republic of Uzbekistan for Human Rights annually until October 10 will create a commission to consider the recommended candidates for awarding a badge. This Commission includes representatives of civil society institutions, scholars and experts working in the field of human rights, as well as representatives of international organizations working in this field.
  3. Relevant documents are considered at the meeting of the Commission and, on the basis of discussion, a final decision, which is made on the selection of the most deserving candidates, send of the Center.
  4. Every year, on the eve of December 10 - International Human Rights Day, the badge “For the protection of human rights” and a certificate to it are awarded in a solemn atmosphere.
  5. The list of those awarded with the badge is published on the official website of the Center and in other media.

 

In 2020-2021, 12 non-governmental and non-profit organizations and their representatives, representatives of state organizations and higher educational institutions, 8 representatives of international and foreign organizations were awarded the badge "For the Protection of Human Rights".

The ceremony of awarding badges "For the Protection of Human Rights"  for 2022 to candidates is planned to be held during the Global Forum "Human Rights Education" (December 5-6, 2022) in Samarkand.
